Flexible legal support: sample in-house placement opportunities

We set out below some skills and experience profiles for which there is currently high demand for in-house placements, where Source expects a high volume of assignments from clients.

Joining the Source Panel gives you access to placement opportunities for periods ranging from three months to a year or more. Your point of contact and guide will be our CEO Peter Workman, a practising solicitor with a Magic Circle and Big Four background.

This page is not exhaustive and new opportunities regularly arise. We invite applications from strong candidates in all commercial practice areas. You can apply in response to an opportunity we have advertised, or to receive information about other current or potential future opportunities. Membership of the Panel is non-exclusive and imposes no obligation on you to accept any placement we may offer you. However, it enables us to provide you with information which might open an exciting new path.

Skills and experience profiles

The following are some skills and experience profiles currently in high demand.

Commercial lawyers

We have a number of clients searching for experienced in-house commercial lawyers for in-house placements. Exceptional contract drafting and negotiation skills are required, with an emphasis on key in-house specialties including IT, outsourcing, supplier and customer contracts.

Corporate lawyers

We regularly hear from clients seeking lawyers to support them with a range of corporate legal projects, including mergers and acquisitions, funding rounds, joint ventures, legal due diligence (buy and sell side) and large scale restructuring projects.

Employment lawyers

We are seeing continued high demand from clients for experienced employment lawyers with a breadth of experience across the full spectrum of workforce-related issues. We are interested in hearing from high quality employment lawyers with expertise in the principal contentious and non-contentious areas including contract drafting (reflecting current employment legislation and best practice), compliance (particularly in connection with HR issues, equal pay and other employment governance issues), and tribunal and complex litigation matters.

Data protection lawyers

We would like to speak to experienced data protection professionals about a range of exciting in-house roles. Our clients seek a high degree of proficiency across the key areas of UK and European data protection legislation and regulation as well as significant practical experience of best practice in connection with compliance monitoring and correct data use and storage.

IP and technology lawyers

We have a number of clients seeking experienced IP and technology lawyers to work across a broad spectrum of IP, technology and media matters and projects. We would like to speak to high quality lawyers with broad experience (contentious, non-contentious or mixed) in areas such as trademarks and designs, advertising and sponsorship, reputation management, copyright and content, and digital platforms. We regularly see opportunities across contentious, advisory, and transactional IP.

Company secretaries

We are seeing sustained demand for top tier company secretarial professionals to fill a range of assistant, deputy and company secretary roles within PLC, large corporate and SME clients. We would like to speak to candidates with high quality company secretarial experience including business ethics, corporate governance and legal and regulatory compliance.

Our offer to lawyers

We offer flexible careers for UK-based solicitors who have demonstrated expertise in leading commercial law firms or in-house legal departments. You may be in private practice or an in-house role, or you may be a freelance lawyer who is open to fresh opportunities.

Source collaborates with law firm Temple Bright, which operates a streamlined, partner-only model. Source lawyers are therefore part of a wider group of likeminded colleagues. Because we can introduce Temple Bright partners to work alongside them cost-effectively, Source lawyers have access to a broader range of opportunities. Lawyers who satisfy most but not all elements of any profile above should therefore approach us for a discussion.

Lawyers joining the Source Panel also benefit from:

  • Our selectivity and high standards, resulting in a strong reputation and a flow of credible assignments.
  • Personal involvement by our CEO, Peter Workman in arranging and overseeing such assignments.
  • Access to Temple Bright’s resources and specialists, and opportunities to be involved in hybrid senior teams.

Membership of our Panel is non-exclusive, and you would not be obliged to take up any opportunities we present.
